The Outlast Trials moves the horror series into a cooperative setting where human test subjects are trapped inside brutal experiments created by the Murkoff Corporation. Instead of fighting enemies directly, players rely on stealth, environmental awareness and specialised equipment to complete objectives while avoiding the people and creatures hunting them.
Every Trial can be attempted alone, but groups of up to four players can cooperate and rescue one another when situations collapse. Different objectives, upgrades and recurring events give the game a structure designed for repeated sessions, while full cross-platform multiplayer lets PC, PlayStation and Xbox players form the same group.
